realistic purchase figure for CMI II. please help.

Please help... I have the opportunity to buy a non-working CMI IIx next week, but must make an offer that's realistic. The system might be completely defunct but I don't care. Has not been used in 15 years and might not even boot up without serious servicing. I still want it. Have seen working CMI's going for £1000, do not know what's fare for a non working one... Please please advise on a realistic figure as I want it but must not insult its owner! Many many thanks, Evan.
