rev9.34 SCSI HD setup commands ?

rev9.34 SCSI HD setup commands ?

2004-03-30 by David J. Wilson

can anyone post the exact commands in 9.34 for
partitioning and formatting each of up to
four external 4GB SCSI HD's ?

I've got four Seagate Barracuda SCSI-2 4GB HD's connected to
my Rev 9.34 CMI's External SCSI connector on the rear of my chassis.

The four hard drives are set to SCSI ID's 4,5,6,7
External SCSI active terminator is plugged into the end of the SCSI
chain at the last drive. The jumpers at each drive for on-board
termination are disabled, I'm using the external terminator plug.

at CMI boot, the diag screen shows the detection of the 4 external
SCSI devices 4,5,6,7 in addition to the internal SCSI devices 0
(boot HD) and 1 (tape drive).

what are the names of the external SCSI drives to CHD to ?
I've tried
"CHD /SC400"
"CHD /SC500"
"CHD /SC600"
"CHD /SC700"
but get Error #222 - Device Not Found

I don't seem to have a command called "INQ"
my Partgen command is v1.04
my DiskPart command is v1.01
my DiskInit command is V2.00

please help !
David

Hi David,

You won't like this but it is not possible to partition a 4 gig drive from
a OS 9.34 CMI. You have to use a OS 11.39 - 11.40 MFX software version which
has a completely updated diskpart utility. You can also use any size SCSI
drive as far as I know but the CMI will only make 4 gig maximum available. I
have two 9 gig drives but only 4 gig is available. I had the same trouble as
you when I only had my OS 9.34 CMI. I have now formatted and partitioned my
drives without a problem for both CMI's.
 I formatted my 4 gig drives as follows: 6 X 650 meg partions + 7th
partition of 180 meg ( leftover )
I can easily access these partitions from any page in the CMI. The advantage
of smaller partitions is that the directory will display the sounds much
quicker. If you have say 1 directory of 4 gig then it will take ages to
display the sounds each time you page to the directory.
Even though I format with the 11.40 CMI I can simply install the OS 9.34
software into the proper k partitions. OS 9.34 requires 3 k partitions and
OS 11.40 requires 4 k partitions.
In fact anyone who needs their CMI drives formatted and partitioned, please
get in contact I would be more than happy to help.
