HP 5P Printer?

HP 5P Printer?

2008-09-13 by bdrmachine

Has anyone successfully used a HP 5P printer to do toner transfers?
I'm using paper from Pulsar with a laminator that they sell (bought
from Digi_Key). The tone never sticks properly. Pulsar tech support
suggests I increase the Toner density to max. The 5P manual states
that the default density setting is 3 of a 1 to 5 scale. I've gone
through all the menu options in the printer menu but I can't seam to
find any density settings other than econo_mode which I have set to
off. I'm using the driver supplied with XP currently but, I also
looked at the old 2001 driver HP now has available on there site. I
have a new HP brand cartridge install so that is not an issue. Pulsar
support also suggested that I check the temperature of the laminator to
ensure it is around 270 to 290 C using a temperature probe. The
trouble there is that the only probe I can fine is at least .125"
around.

If anyone can help I will truly be grateful.
Brian

Yep, and it's not in the printer driver. Look for a program in the HP
directory called HPPCFG or the like. That is what you need to run. It
allows you to set the density.

If it has a foil setting, set it to that, or failing that, the
thickest setting you can do for the laminating pouch.

I have to run mine through (different laminator) about 6 to 8 times to
get the board hot enough.

Thanks for the reply!
I searched for the file you mentioned but no luck. What is the exact
name and extension? Where did the file come from? I have an extension
called HP but I'm not sure if this is do to the fact that I also have a
HP 2605dn color printer installed. Pulsar told me that the toner in
color printers won't work. This is why I drug-out my old 5P and
purchased new toner for it.

Thanks Much

On my XP machine, the full path is

C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\LaserJet All-in-one\hppcfg.exe

It was part of the relatively complete package of drivers that I
downloaded from HP for my HP2200D. I'd look there.

This is an exe file, so it's a program that you can put as a shortcut
on the desktop. I use it that way every time I want to make a board.

Almost got a 2605DN, but missed out on the sale, ended up with a
slightly more expensive CP1515n instead. Not doublesided but
networkable.

I'll have to see about the color toners not working, best we (HP and
I) could figure out is that the color toners are hotter for the fuser
settings, but the black toner may not be. (color sphere, etc...)

Hi,

I use a HP laserjet 6P for toner transfert. I ran accross the same problem but finally found that the only mean to change the default density was through a DOS utility found on HP web site.
Here is a link for the LJ 6P :
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=US&swItem=lj810ee&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=25477

Don't know if it will work with the 5P. Otherwise, you can make a search on HP web site with "DOS remote control panel"

Mike.

Thanks Loads!

Your help led me to my first successful toner transfer board. I had to
configure a harddrive to run the dos software from hp (instlj.exe).
Now that I used the rcp.exe program in dos (part of the instlj.exe
installed code) the print seams to retain the higher density setting
even after powering everything down and then back up again.

Thanks Again
Brian
