Welcome to the K5000 Club!

2000-08-13 by marion_pantarei

I have added some great links to Kawai K5000
sites - there are some unreal patches out there! If you
know more of these sites, feel welcome to add a link
here at this club. Just click on links (in the left
hand panel), then on "Add A Link"!

If you're a
K5000 user, tell something about yourself, your
experiences with the K5000, your music, your band, etc. You
can also mention the URL of your site in a message on
the board here, if you like, or announce events, such
as gigs, jam and chat sessions, etc, as long as it's
about K5000 of course! You can also add photos here,
create your own album, if you like!

Welcome to
the club!
Marion.

Hi Marion,

this seemed to be a quiet
place... I hope this will change soon...

my
music... hmm... www.mp3.com/AToF/
mostly older stuff
(80s and 90s) and I haven't used the K5000 for my
songs yet... since I haven't done much music lately...
more sound programming... but this will change
soon...

Summa

Hi Summa!

2001-02-23 by Optionality

If you're into sound programming, you'll love the
K5000 for the way individual harmonics can be
programmed. As far as I know, there's no other synth that
does this. You can create some awesome sounds that
way, it's quite powerful.

Anyway, glad to see
you here. Let us know how you're dpoing with your
K5000!

Re: Hi Summa!

2001-03-02 by flotorian

Hi Optionality,

programming the envelope
of every single harmonic is quite an evening filling
task that can be quite frustrating... so depending on
the sound I want to make I try to find my way
around... ;) anyway, somethimes it's worth it.
Fortunately I was able overcome the first half year with my
K5000R without getting frustrated too much, since then I
realy like that synth!

Re: Hi Summa!

2001-03-04 by Optionality

Yes, you're right, it's a lot of work. That's why
I haven't been able to complete much of the music
they way I planned this. One of the things that
complicates things even further is that I was initially
looking a sounds of a fixed frequency. Calculating each
of the frequencies and volumes of the individual
harmanics of each sound seemed possible. But trying to do
the same for frequencies that glide higher or lower
in time, multiplies this work, which can indeed be a
bit frustrating. Anyway, it's still on the agenda,
I'll keep you posted! :) Thanks for replying!

Re: Hi Summa!

2001-03-04 by flotorian

What kind of sounds are you trying to create,
btw. there are some tools that can be quite helpfull
to create an additive spectrum...
Like
wave2add...
Why don't you use the pitch envelope to let
the sound glide higher or lower or do you try to
shift the sounds formants?

Re: Hi Summa!

2001-03-05 by Optionality

Thanks for mentioning that. I have had a look at
a number of such tools, but I haven't heard of this
one yet. Do you know any URLs for more
info?

What I have in mind is to use pure harmonics, i.e.
making sure that all frequencies relate to each other in
simple ratios. That's naturally the case, but not so
simple if you combine two or more sounds. As long as
there's just one tone (with its harmonics) it's indeed
simple, one can just gradually shift all frequencies
higher or lower. But imagine you have a melody with a
pitch glide, while the background is built up using a
number of sounds. Imagine that the background stays the
same. As long as there's no glides, the melody tone can
co-incide with one of the harmonics of the background
sound. What I want to do is to use glides in the melody,
while maintaining as much harmony between the melody
sound and the background chord. That can be done by
suppressing some harmonics at some stage during the glide,
while increasing the volume of others, or even by using
specific harmonics of the background chord (at some stage
during the glide) to replace some of the harmonics in
the melody. Until now, I have only managed to work
out a step by step shift in frequencies, rather than
a smoother glide.

I'll let you know if it
works out to something that's interesting to listen to!

Hi,

for the wav2add and other interesting
software try this link...
http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Lounge/6766/K5000_Files.html

When I read your description I don't realy understand
what kind of sound you after (cold be some kind of
algorithmic composition) or is it simply something that can't
realy be categorised?
That's lack of understandind
may caused by the fact that english is not my native
language...
But it sounds to me that there's lots of math
involved...
If you have finished a patch I'd realy like
to listen to it...

Re: Hi Summa!

2001-03-06 by Optionality

Thanks for that link! Yes, there's quite a bit of
working out frequencies involved in this approach, that's
why I haven't found the time to do it yet. But as
soon as I have completed something, I'll let you know.

Best regards, keep playing, I look forward to hear
your work!

Hi phonophobie, good to see you here!

2001-03-24 by phonophobie

ive got my 5000 some years now and today im not
so involved into it because i have not the time for
it. some time ago i was realy deep into it and i did
scientific work. i made a theorie that depends on each harms
and releations of there pitch. i remember that i did
a patch that includes harms 2-32 and i pitched
every harmonics to the same hz-value.. so these 32harms
was generates one sinus-sound.
as i remeber
correctly
pitch of harm 8 was at 0
pitch of harm 2 was at
+24
pitch of harm 32was at -24
than i let the modulation
wheel control the pitch of each harm to let each harm
played on the normal hz-value. i made also a graphic to
see which value is needed to each harmonic.
i hope
you understand what i mean. would be interesting when
you post some of your 5000science:::)))
cu

Re: science

2001-03-25 by Optionality

Yeah, I think I understand what you were doing.
You started with a sound that sounded as one sinus,
just one frequency. Then, by using the wheel, you
could get the harmonics return to their original
frequencies. That sounds like a great effect, how did it
sound?

I haven't had much time lately to play around and
create such effects either. I guess we've all delved
deep into the theory of why some tones sound better
together than other tones. It's great to meet someone who
has been there too.

Love to hear more, keep in
touch!

Re: science

2001-03-25 by phonophobie

yep! when i find this patch i put it intoo the
file area...
ups!!!!!!!
where is a file area
here!!!!!???????? i know this group feature from egroups, but yahoo
seems to be fucked off. hm?!
anyway i can mail you
this or the graphic i made. i read about your gliding
sinus theorie..it sounds great.please complete a patch
and yes, we keep in touch! ;)

Re: science

2001-03-26 by Optionality

Yes, right now you can only upload photos,
graphics, etc. - there's no specific file area here at the
moment, but there will be in future! Yahoo! has bought up
eGroups and all groups and clubs will be combined and
have features like uploading and sharing files. This
is all supposed to take place over the next two
months or so. So, I look forward to that, because I love
to see everyone upload sounds, patches, etc.

Keep in touch!

Re: science

2001-04-01 by phonophobie

i uploaded a similar file to http://www.egroups.co.uk/files/K5000/
i think you have to be a member there. and i think you already are.... :)

Re: science

Thanks for letting me know!

Yes, I believe
that this is the same group
as:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/K5000
and your file
is:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/K5000/science.KA1

Yahoo has bought up eGroups, that means that all groups
now under http://www.egroups.co.uk and those under
http://www.egroups.com will be given URLs in the yahoo domain
name.

They will be integrated with the clubs (such as this
one) now under this URL,
i.e.:
http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/k5000

We 'll see what happens, it means that one will have
to change it's name, since they're both called
K5000. This club will probably have to change it's name,
since it has fewer members, messages, etc.

By
the way, I still have to listen to your file, isn't
it great that files can be exchanged and discussed
in this way!

Best regards!

Re: science

2001-04-06 by phonophobie

yep, egroups & yahoo groups are the same now...
but its cool to have this place here and although i
like it that not so much users here. i posted some
messages there but they get lose. i hope you tell me what
you think about that patch. that patch is just a
fundamental. you can do what you like with it, and i hope you
send me some variations from you. hope you dig it ;-)
stay tuned

UFOrgan! maybee someone can help me?

2001-04-16 by phonophobie

hello. ive got a sample from a organ like sound.
it is a popular sound and can be found in many
music-productions. mostly in blackmusic. since ive got a sample
from it, i tried to resynth it
with the
sounddiver, but that sucks. i think that soundspectrum can be
done with the K5000, because its a very sinus like
sample/ organ like. its nearly clear, without dust etc.
just looped a little bit sloppy. i didnt found that
great organsound in any k5000 files and i dont know up
to now whats the name of that instrument ( and im
sure it has a classic name ).
what about the
wav2add programm. is it better for those special
things???
-->> PLEEEASE! help me. i need this sound on my k5000
and im sure you all need it,too. it would be a great
thing for the k5000! i can send you a wav-file called
"UFOrgan" and give away 1.000.000$
for the man who
create this on k5000 ;-)
-Phonophobie-

Hi All, Just another WTB Guy!...LOL... I've
just
bought 2 K5m's... both on Ebay.. One used at $150.00 and
one NOS at $175.00. I've lost auctions
on a K5000r
and a K5000s. Man, I came so close on that ...s
though. They listed it at a reserve much higher than they
intended and Emailed me to
tell me to check with the
store after the auction
but when I called another
guy in the store had sold it for $979.00... in the
meantime, my guy in the store had emailed me offering it to
me for 750.00. Damn! It was like new in box too. Oh
well.
I want to stack the K5m's up on top of the
K5000s
and design patches for each specifically
intended
to layer together as one mega patch. Should be fun.
I love programming my own sounds so the K5 series
synths should be perfect. That is all...

Hi, good to see you here. Yes, programming your own sounds is what many love about the K5000. After the integration clubs/groups, you should be able to upload your sounds here.

Marion

Re: New Member

Hi, Speaking of the Integration of clubs/groups...
what do you know about this? Someone was asking me about it and I couldn't even remember where I'd heard about it.

Re: New Member

2001-11-26 by marion_pantarei

Here's my recollection of events - if anyone can
correct or add details, please do so! Ever since Yahoo!
bought eGroups, the idea was to integrate these groups
with the existing Yahoo clubs. Right now, clubs can be
found at:
http://clubs.yahoo.com
and groups (i.e.
the old eGroups)
at:
http://groups.yahoo.com

These groups have been discussing
this:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/yahooclubs
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Merger

Info on the
merger:
http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/groups/info/

Groups have some excellent features and
Yahoo has also added some features of clubs to groups,
so the plan is that all clubs will be transformed
into groups. Two months or so ago, groups were told
that non-active groups would be deleted. This actually
did happen, in much the same way as when Onelist and
eGroups had merged before. The plan was that there would
be as little overlap as possible between names of
clubs and groups.

Just recently, Yahoo disabled
the ability to create new clubs, which makes me
believe that the shift of all clubs to the new groups is
now immanent.

For more details, have a look
at:
http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/clubmasters

Hope this helps, let me know if you come across
something new!

Marion

Integration groups/clubs

2001-11-28 by revitaliser

Integration groups/clubs seems immanent. This
clubs new features a special announcement at the top.
For more details,
see:
http://groups.yahoo.com/local/clubs_pre.html

Question is, will this clubs keep the same title, or will
the title (name) have to be changed due to
duplication with a group either the main groups or a
ntional/regional group? Anyone with more clues?

Re: Integration groups/clubs

2002-03-05 by marion_pantarei

Many clubs have already been converted to groups. We'll have to wait and see how things develop for this place, I do hope it can keep its name!
