Apple Logic Pro /LogicExpress Discussion

Hi all, 
I'm new to the group and new to Logic (although I have been reading up about it a lot 
lately).  I'm planning on purchasing it soon, but I wanted to see if any users might 
remember if pro application promos typically preceded upgrades to the software?  

I'm an education user so my price is the same with or without the promo, but if it's likely 
that Logic will be updated to version 8, then I'd rather wait.  (The reason I want to pick it 
up now is so I can start learning it as soon as possible).  I am not familiar with Logic's 
upgrade cycle, or whether there is any hidden meaning behind pro application promotions 
(I know Apple hardware promos typically coincide with some sort of revision or clearing 
out of the product line).  

If anyone has any information on this I would greatly appreciate it.
