Does "Recording Studio" promo hint at possible new upgrade to Logic?

Does "Recording Studio" promo hint at possible new upgrade to Logic?

2005-09-15 by iam_atiger

Hi all,
I'm new to the group and new to Logic (although I have been reading up about it a lot
lately). I'm planning on purchasing it soon, but I wanted to see if any users might
remember if pro application promos typically preceded upgrades to the software?

I'm an education user so my price is the same with or without the promo, but if it's likely
that Logic will be updated to version 8, then I'd rather wait. (The reason I want to pick it
up now is so I can start learning it as soon as possible). I am not familiar with Logic's
upgrade cycle, or whether there is any hidden meaning behind pro application promotions
(I know Apple hardware promos typically coincide with some sort of revision or clearing
out of the product line).

If anyone has any information on this I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,
kaveh

I was wondering when we would start seeing this
question. No offense to the poster but I think the
consensus you will get here is that no one knows and
if anyone pretends to do know they are actually just
pretending. It's a great program so get it and jump on
in. Don't waste your time playing the waiting game.

I believe Apple's policy is that all academic purchases are not upgradable. For example, you can buy Logic 7 for $500 academic or the full version for $1000, but can't upgrade the academic version. So when 8 comes out, you'll pay another $500 for another academic version versus $300 for an upgrade. But when logic 9 comes out almost break even.

Apple is always secretive about releasing everything. The beta-testers might have some idea, but they would get fired for saying anything. so you take your chances.

This may be a new policy but i bought an educational
version of Logic 6 from Apple and have done every
upgrade since without any problem. There seems to be a
lot of confusion around this issue and Apple needs to
clarify this. JP

I've read that with most of the other pro apps, educational
versions can't be upgraded, but that Logic is the only one
which still can be.

Also - thanks to everyone for their responses. I think I'm
just going to pick it up this weekend so I can start digging in.

I think it started with LP7. I was told this by three different Apple people at three different locations - including the guy who is the Logic teacher at one of the Apple stores. As a college faculty member, I am eligible for the academic version too, and I can sell my current Logic version for about the same as buying the upgrade - so getting a free upgrade in a sense. But Logic is my main music tool, even with its flaws - and I don't want to mess around with it. You may be ok, since you upgraded from 6 academic to 7 normal. But buying 7 academic might be a different story.
