TIm, With my MOTU 8-pre I sometimes get that going on when certain firewire drives are attached. Some don't cause problems some do. My popping and crackle is between the interface and a digital mixer. But, I'm pretty sure it's the firewire variable in the equation that determines whether things go haywire or not.
