If it has midi out, then yes, it can be used as a trigger. Hook its midi out 
to a midi in of your interface.   In the old days you used to have to go to 
Logic's environment and create a new midi instrument or multi-instrument, and 
set it to the correct port. I am not sure if that can be done in Apples 
audio/midi utility instead now. when you hit a key on it, look in the transport of 
logic to see if the midi note shows up. make a midi track on the arrange page, 
and load the exs with sounds. then select that track and hit the ry30 and see if 
it makes some sound.
