Apple Logic Pro /LogicExpress Discussion

I have Logic 8.0.2 which is crashing on start up (it should open on  
startup), sometimes with the error -1712.  Tonight I reinstalled Logic  
(just the application) but to no effect. If it were a PC, I would  
think that a firewall was prevent things from starting up because  
sometimes Appleworks doesn't open either.  After I try opening up  
Logic, the icon in the dock shows a little white dot next to it,  
indicating that it is open, but of course, it's not.  Restarting the  
Mac doesn't do anything, either.

I have a Mac Mini (leopard), a Firestudio audio interface and an  
external hard drive of 500G, of which I have used all but about 85G.

Any ideas?
