OOPS! It looks like a serious crash on the way. I hope you did enable time machine and you made a complete backup of your files. I have been in that situation before, and the best way to get rid of all kinds of issues is to make a clean install of 10.5 with your original disc. Then, use the migration assistant, that imports your time machine data. It should do the job. OR: you're using the firestudio alongside with an external FW drive and you're starting up on that drive, too. Many FW audio interfaces don't like that. I used to have the exact same problem in the past with 2 different FW interfaces on 4 computers (G5, PB17, PB15, Macbook 13"). By all means, avoid daisy-chaining hard drives and audio intefaces, although multiple connections allow that in theory.
