Yeah, using the chord and transposition tracks has definitely been a struggle. The only reason I use them is when I need to use apple loops for some reason (usually to add guitar to my compositions). But the effects on existing and new midi regions seem almost random. They transpose when I don't want it (and vice versa), using one transpose drop-down in the inspector transposes the notation but not the notes, and normalizing parameters seems to have no effect. If you forget to check the "No Transpose" button, good luck getting the part back to the original notes. I'm sure it will get better as it becomes more familiar to me, but like you, I had a vision in my head of how a chord track could make my life a whole lot easier, and so far, that just has not happened.
