The thing that bothers me about the "ties" is that they are strangely named.
In music, to tie notes is to extend them. What that tie function does, is to
make a bunch of regions contigous without gaps. What Apple could do is to add
a "comment field" in the key commands to explain this, and then when someone
searched for "move" which is what this function does, then this would come as
an option. But no one would think "I need to move some regions to be
contiguous so I am going to do a search for the word tie" - well maybe now you will
make that connection but its bizarre.
There is also another useful key command to move a bunch of regions from
separate tracks all onto one track. These two together allow you to make a bunch
of cuts with the marquee tool on a raw audio, then arrange them all together on
a single track next to each other, where they can be burned to a CD or
whatever.
The other tie function - to lengthen the regions - i can't imagine what that
would be useful for.
