Re: [Logic_Cafe] sheet music

2008-09-22 by Tim McLane

Oo, my current favorite subject!

I have used Logic for this and found it a little inflexible, too. I have been unable to figure out how to do a full score in Logic, ie, full strings, woodwinds, brass, saxes, etc. all transposed and then have it print out charts. I can do pieces of this process but stopped because, for pro gigs, it just doesn't look as neat as Finale.

I currently use Print Music, a cheap version of Finale. I used to have the full version of Finale--about 7-8 years ago; it was very cumbersome but now, I'm doing more things for large live groups, I was thinking of upgrade to the current full version of Finale. I recently tried a demo copy of Sibelius and found it unbelieveably intuitive, so easy to use.

Has anyone else had this experience? I haven't been about to get any endorsement infor from anyone who has tried both, so I'm not sure which to choose, yet. The other consideration is that, here in LA, sometimes the client (other Finale orchestrators, arrangers or composers) want you to have Finale ---- so I'm undecided as yet.

Regards,

tim

  Subject: [Logic_Cafe] sheet music

Hey what do people use for a music notation program? Logic does it, but it
seems a bit inflexible. I outputted things to midi, and was able to open them in
the demo versions of the Finale and convert to sheet music. It more or less
did everything I wanted, eventually when I went to the higher end products, but
it just seemed unfriendly. Even some thing like setting a tempo quarter note
= 120 bpm, took a number of steps, and you could not copy and paste chords and
things. Is there some other good alternative to make a final print versoin of
  a song?
