Using Express 6 I recorded 4 bars of audio. I copied it on the arrange page using option-drag method. I transposed the copied audio. Both the copy and the original tranposed. (I didn't want that) How do I make my copy independant?

In any Logic, When you choose an audio path for a recording you are forced to name the audio. That is the last time you ever see that name. When you record it becomes things like "audio 1 #31' What use is the name you give audio if you never see the name? Why does Logic force you to name audio? In fact , since you name the audio and later see it named something else, it is very confusing. Why Why Why? I could see it if you named it "tree" and then your first recording was called tree1 and then tree2. This would make sense and be useful and helpful.

thanks why do you suppose it wants a name? Does it use it somehow?

No, this is a selectable feature ("use object name as filename" or something)
and IIRC it was introduced in Logic 6.
It's a convenient function when you name your tracks (not when you leave them
"audio 1"). :o)
It is true that you HAVE to enter a filename when selecting the record path,
this is because the standard fileselector is used and it doesn't want to
leave without having an actual filename. As long as you enter one letter, it
is happy.
And if you want to manually enter filenames, deselect the "use object name"
function, it's a checkbox in the audio record path dialog.

Hello! I have a real weird problem - since today. I can play music with iTUnes - everything is fine and played throughj the Motu 828 mk2´s main out. If I want to playback something with Logic Pro 7.1 or Quicktime or iMovie I got weird high noises - no sound - only this noises - on all outs - even if I change to headphones or the other outs (even the non-connnected outs) as main out I got the high sounds through the main output - and nothing else. If I start playback in Logic, I got "audio-midi synchronize" problems - right after starting playback. If I change to internal sound everything is fine, Quicktime and all other tools play just as would have been nothing happened. It does not depened on which sample rate I choose. I did reinstall the MOTU drivers (latest) - no help. If I have something running in iTunes (playing back normal) and then start Quicktime or Logic - the iTunes out is not hearble anymore - only the high noises which sound like a digital problem. I changed the firewire port - same problem. I did not install anything new since yesterday only some widgets, everything was fine when I went out of the house (system was put to sleep) - when I was back everything was bad. Same problem in Ableton Live 4.1.3 I have a Dual 2 GHZ G5 (one of the older systems), running on Tiger 10.4.1 since the release (with no problems), Logic Pro 7.1, Motu 828mkII, 2.5 GB Ram, 2x internal Seagate 160 GB S-ATA drives, 1x external Lacie D2 Extreme with Triple Interface 250 GB drive. Any help, any hint what might have happened, any clues, any help whom I should call (Apple? Motu? is it a hardware problem? software problem? would be appreciated as for now I am not able to continue to work (and I have to get done some remixes)... All answers please also to my private email ( thedi[at]kiew[dot]org ) as this is urgent and I am not reading this group all the time.... Help! Help! Help! -thedi. --

Seems to be the drive for your motu sound card, check with motu if that drive works fine with Tiger and Logic 7.1, I use to have a similar problems with M-audio drives and Native Instrumens Apps. as stand alone, just noise coming out of the sound card, also check the buffer size, you may be need to increase the buffer.... Peace Ypmn
