Audio control track

2006-05-31 by Janek Schaefer

Hi all...

Does anyone know if you can control the volume output of a track based on the input from another audio track?

I have a recording of fireworks that I would like to use to control the volume of a recording of an empty room.
So when the bags go off \u2013 my audio recording briefly gets louder automatically
I don\u2019t want to hear the control track [fireworks]

thanks
Janek

try using a compressor with a side chain input from the fireworks track. actually i am not sure if you want to compress or expand.

Thanks

Not sure about compression/expansion.
I am not sure I want to compress or expand....
Just adjust the volume of the master track using the fireworks control
track...

Which option would that be if any then?
Where would I do the options... In the arrange or mixer window [So many
options man... It’s confusing but powerful :->]

Sorry I’m not being so technical...
A learning curve beyond just multitrack arrangements that I normally do...

a compressor works as if you were adjusting the volume knob, by turning it down every time something loud came through. Normally its the track itself. However, you can also make the adjustments based on another track. Thats called the sidechain input. Try reading the logic manual on sidechain option for the compressor.
