MacBook 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo and Logic Pro

MacBook 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo and Logic Pro

2006-09-12 by m8xxm8n

I would like to know if there are any issues with the MacBook 1.83 GHz Intel
Core Duo and Logic Pro?

I tried running some demos after loading Logic Pro and it seems to not want to
play the files.

Has anyone had this problem and if so what was the work around?

Thanks in advance

Hi A-Train,
I do not own the MacBook Pro.
But, the problem seems the same for the Titanium G4's (and most other
laptops)
Make sure you are not trying to run the audio from your internal drive.
Use and external USB/FW drive that is at least 7200 RPM.
The internals on laptops are usually 5400 RPM and thats not fast
enough to read all the audio files in time without choking
Good Luck

I don't have the experience with that combination but as far as I know,
no.

Which demos are these? Which files are you trying to play? I suspect
that if you're running just Logic Pro on a MacBook, it will work fine.
A little bit more information will help us in helping you.

I just had another thought to my last email. Which version of Logic
Pro are you running? If you don't have version 7.2 of Logic Pro, I
believe that Logic will boot up under Rosetta which will most likely be
too slow to run anything very useful. HTH,

I've been running logic pro on a 2ghk macbook pro for a couple of months
and I haven't had any problems. I'm not sure that's an answer to your
question, but it's very similar architecture.

I was trying the Logic Demos that come with Logic Pro
as a TEST to see if the macbook would work. I also
loaded live and found the same problem the harddrive I
guess is not streaming audio fast enought?

My next question is, if you use an external harddrive
runing at a faster RPM, would you load the application
on this drive or would you just link the audio from
the drive... Meaning that the audio is setting on the
extrenal and the app is sitting on the MacBook?

I am running Logic 7.0

I will now go and try updating it to 7.2

Thanks for your help,

That is probably your problem. I've run demos off of the internal
drive on my Powerbook and they ran fine. 7.2 was the first Universal
Binary version of Logic. The most probable reason that you weren't
getting the performance that you expect is that Logic was being run
under Rosetta emulation for it to run on an Intel processor. Your
version of Live is probably also not a UB version. HTH and good luck,

Also, if Logic 7.0 run under Rosetta emulation, it shows how good of a
job the Rosetta engineers did with the emulation side. I would think
the massive amount of code inside Logic, including old legacy code,
would be tough to emulate. --Kent
