Bumped into this link on Wikipedia: http://logicprohelp.com/vip_users.php By the way, in grad school I had to sit through a 10 minute lecture by a fellow graduate student on why Nuendo is superior to Pro Tools, and is the future DAW of the world. I wanted to strangle him for many reasons.

I read a scathing bit about Protools from a guy who had worked for the company. Like many older programs it probably needs to be re-written from the ground up. thats what cool about Abelton live, although I find it hard to use that program because its so different from Logic. I have heard good things about Nuendo - that compares favorably to logic in terms of ease of use, track counts, and audio quality. I feel like Logic Pro is my main work area though - clunky as it is many ways. Hopefully Logic 8 will be coming soon and be a great improvement. > By the way, in grad school I had to sit through a 10 minute lecture by > a fellow graduate student on why Nuendo is superior to Pro Tools, and > is the future DAW of the world. I find myself using Ableton Live more and more. At first I only used Live in performance but now I'm improvising in Live in the beginning stages of composition in the studio. Logic is still my first choice for composition and remains the core of my primary DAW but my starting template in Logic now contains 12 tracks rewired to Live. Live allows me to improvise on different instruments (EWI, Keys, Pads) in a much more musical and intuitive manner without having to break the flow in order to fuss with the interface. Here is the website, and there is a demo version of Live6 http://www.ableton.com/ You can also get a free lite version of Live4 if you buy many of m-audio's products. I like Live's plugs, and the ability to warp audio. However, its much more trouble to do anything with Midi, or cutting audio. Its like they are trying so hard to be different that they have to do everything differently, even if its clumsy. Of course Logic's audio editor is getting a bit old too. Apple needs to look at their own Soundtrack software for some ideas on how to upgrade the audio editor - a grid, nicer color and transparency, multiple undos, etc. In a message dated 12/23/06 10:11:45 AM, timmclane@... writes: > > where can I see or hear -- hands on, maybe -- a demo of Ableton Live? how > much is it? > > > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
