the repeat previous 4 bars symbol....

the repeat previous 4 bars symbol....

2007-02-28 by Tim McLane

Does anyone know if there is a repeat the previous four bars symbol or command in Logic? We always used to use this AND the the symbol for repeat the previous 8 bars in regular notation (Clinton Roemer "The Art of Music Copying") back in the day but I can't seem to access it in Logic. One thing I have thought of is to leave the bars blank, put in a multi-rest and then write in that this means to repeat the previous four or eight bars. But that doesn't allow me to go back and to edit easily.

Any ideas?

Is this strictly for notation? I don't think there's any way to jump
around during playback, although you might be able to program
something using the more arcane features of the environment.

For notation, I usually have a separate version of the song without
any repeats, then just insert the repeat symbols in the right places.

Another option if you really want the notation to mirror the playback
is to use an alias. Aliases don't show up in the notation, so if you
place an alias of the 8 bars after the real 8-bar region, it will
play twice, but show up in the notation only once. You put the
repeat symbols in the notation version to cue the reader. The only
problem with this is that the measure numbers don't work out right,
and there is a break in the score between the original region and the
region after the alias. My solution is to not use measure numbers,
and to move the beginning of the post-alias region to the next line
to hide the break.

Thanks, GR, but I want it to give the symbol for repeat the previous 4 bars
or 8 bars--- yeah, maybe I am asking for too much! But I'll try what you
say.

Maybe the copying region function can solve your problem;
in Mac with the select Arrow tool select what you want to repeat then
copy and paste or simply Option-drag and voil\ufffd!

hope this helps.
