transpose bug on older songs

transpose bug on older songs

2007-04-07 by GAmoore@aol.com

I am opening some older Logic songs in Logic Pro 7.1 and it seems most of the
midi is a half step out of tune or something to the audio. It doesn't seem to
help no matter what I try (I copied the tracks to another track with a new
instrument, selected all notes and toggled and deleted all the other stuff in
case there was a pitchbend, I checked the global transposition was not checked).
Any other ideas?

I have the same problem when I leave my Mac on for a while or have Logic open for a while--- I haven't tracked it down yet. I just restart and that cures the problem. However, I would be interested in knowing if your experience and mine have the same root cause.

Never seen it here... What instruments have you experienced this
with? Just for the record, I disabled all sleep functions in the
energy saver CP except for screen saver and monitor sleep, so maybe
that's why I've not seen it in the first place... Just thinking out
loud...

Best,

Andy

I think it is with the internal instruments, not MIDI info from other synths.

I understand that :-) , I meant what instruments in particular or do
you mean all of them?

Best,

Andy

It wasn't all the instruments which initially confused me. I'll check it out --- It hasn't happened in a while.

Have you or Greg tried disabling all sleep modes and see if it fixes
it? Just an idea...

Best,

Andy

The problem is coming from opening songs which have not been opened in 2
years or so, and saved with an earlier version of Logic. (Our BMI discussion is
motivating me to release my entire "catalog"). It seems to apply to internal
instruments only - although it seemed to apply to all internal instruments.

I don't think it has anything to do with sleep because I was working so
actively there was no time for it to sleep. I need to try it again today, because I
started having some buggy behaviour in the OS, then finally I got that
semi-transparent message saying I needed to immediately shut down. So I threw in the
towel at that point.

I have seen this before too although I can't recall the exact circumstances.
There is another bug where if you have Sounddiver and Logic open at the same
time, it can somehow permanently disable all the midi for that song, and the
only answer is to create a new song from scratch, and copy the midi over.

You mean pre-v7 songs? Then song settings and tuning tables are the
first 2 things I'd check...

How do you do that? (I haven't tried it)

Apple -> System Preferences -> Energy saver -- my settings are "put computer
to sleep" set to "never", "put disks to sleep whenever possible" is
unchecked (I used to work with Digi hardware, so this was a must).

Since Greg says it's not the case with his system it may be all moot... I
guess I'd rather check song settings and/or tuning tables with old pre-v7
songs...

Best,

Andy
