Region/s Repeat

Region/s Repeat

2007-08-16 by pete_buchwald

Hey,

Just discovered another time saver. In order to repeat a region or regions I used to select,
copy/paste, paste, paste, paste, paste ......

But under the arrange window's "region" menu there is a "repeat regions" option. You just
enter "47" or whatever, and voila!

     Handy,

      Pete

Select the first region and press 'L' for loop, then drag the edge of the last looped region to
trim if needed.

Or just grab it with your mouse in the upper corner and drag it
(cursor automatically turns into a Loop tool like Garageband)

I usually prefer to repeat, rather than loop. So that if I want to edit midi notes in
measure ... 45 I still have the power to cut out notes. Makes it sound less, well, loopy.

I actually use aliases alot myself for the same reason. Most of my
drums are supposed to be repetitive machine stuff anyways..
But now I wonder (not at the studio where my XSKey is so cant try it
at home)...
If you have say a region followed by 4 loops of itself, can you take
say the third one in line and make it a real copy? Or will it ruin
the loops?

Any loop (alias) can be turned into a real copy by option clicking it with the pencil tool.

Yep I know this but what I was asking was..
If you just made a 4 bar loop from a region..
Say you want to change bar 3..
So turn bar 3 into a real copy however you wish to do it.
Does bar 4 stay a loop or does it go away, does it turn to a real copy?

Eh nevermind I can go try it myself in about 10 mins anyways.

I'm guessing the original region is one bar long since you didn't specify. Option click the
4th loop first, then option click the 3rd loop. The fouth newly converted region can then
be looped again by simply hitting "L" for loop, and the 3rd one can be edited
independantly.

Then hit 'K' (default key command) to turn the loops into real copies ;-)

Just tried the "L" and then "K" .... that is killer!! LOVE it.

... I wonder what else I might learn if I'd read the manual? : )

Actually you wont really learn any key commands that way hehe. To be
honest I havent opened mine in awhile, but I dont think those are listed
in any of the docs..
Best way is pretty much just to open up the Key Commands window and look
there.
I know you used to be able to export them to a text file to print up,
probably still can. Just be warned its ALOT of paper hehe.

Not only that- but you can make your own key commands : )
