audio slow down bug - zeroing in on the cause

2007-12-18 by GAmoore@aol.com

I have experienced a problem with Logic 8, fairly consistently. I record say
30 pieces of audio on a single track (I am doing a gear test to see what
really sounds best when I burn to a CD). I found that about one of these tracks
each time is strangely slowed down. As if a 45 rpm record were played at 33 rpm -
the speed is slowed down, and the pitched it pitched down, maybe a 5th of so.
Then after about 10 seconds it comes up to speed.

I finally think I found the cause of it. The problem usually occurs, when I
have left the computer idle for a few minutes - maybe 3-4 minutes even. When I
hit record, there is a long delay - apparently waiting for the hard disk to
spin up (I am recording to a 2nd internal drive). Many times these recordings
are ok, but all of the bad ones seem to have occurred during this spin up
period.

I am going to try to alter the energy saver settings to not allow the drives
to power down, while I am doing recording.
