As far as the Fast Track goes, make sure you've got it properly connected and that you have the latest drivers from the M-Audio website. Once that's done, you should be able to select it in your Logic preferences as your preferred input device. -- -Shawn "Shawno" Thorpe Hyper Nonsense - Talk/comedy podcast from central California http://www.hypernonsense.com/ Shawnogram - Content = life. http://www.shawnogram.com/ Phantom Power Media - Bloggy, podcasty http://www.phantompower.org/ [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

I am doing this from memory but as I recall ... hook up the midi interface to
the computer and power it up if its not bus powered.
on the mac, open the audio-midi utility. you might need to create a new setup
and have it scan the system. it should find your midi interface.
now open Logic. open the environment window. go to the page with midi icons
(forgot the name now but its not the mixer page). create a new
multi-instrument. select several or all of the midi channels (1...16) so they don't have
diagonal lines through them. then select the overall item (so none of the
individual channels is selected) then rename it "Roland" or whatever. In the inspector
area, choose the midi port that corresponds to your m-audio and its port.
you can check it by selecting the track on the arrange page of Logic, and
play the keyboard and you should hear something. if you select a virtual
instrument track, define it as ES1 or whatever, then play the keyboard and it should
play that sound instead of the keyboard sound.
Of course, you have to set the keyboard to "midi only" mode. Also you have
the output of the keyboad and computer going to a mixer and monitor system of
some sort.

If you just want to use the keyboard to play soft synths within Logic, you just need to connect the Juno via MIDI to the Fast Track, and of course, the FT to the computer via USB, then do what Greg says regarding the Audio MIDI Setup program found in the Utilities folder in your applications folder. If you also want to play back MIDI sequences using the sounds on the Juno, then the audio outputs need to go into your mixer or whatever monitor system you are using. If you also want to record the sounds from the Juno, then the audio outs from the Juno should go into the FT, then use the headphone out or main outs for monitoring. Someone may already have created an environment for that keyboard with all patch names already entered. Do a google search and check out swiftkick.com Gregory On Mar 16, 2008, at 2:20 AM, struc1x wrote: > Here's what I'm trying to accomplish. > > a. You guys are GREAT. First thing tommorrow I'll try those setup. The Roland Juno-G got some very nice sounds. I want to make sure it's recording that exact sound off juno into logic 8. Then with that juno sound I want to use logic to add ultrabeat tracks etc... to complete my "song". Thanks again... I'll try and update you guys. --- In Logic_Cafe@yahoogroups.com, Gregory Anderson <glists@...> wrote: > > If you just want to use the keyboard to play soft synths within > Logic, you just need to connect the Juno via MIDI to the Fast Track, > and of course, the FT to the computer via USB, then do what Greg says > regarding the Audio MIDI Setup program found in the Utilities folder > in your applications folder. > > If you also want to play back MIDI sequences using the sounds on the > Juno, then the audio outputs need to go into your mixer or whatever > monitor system you are using. > > If you also want to record the sounds from the Juno, then the audio > outs from the Juno should go into the FT, then use the headphone out > or main outs for monitoring. > > Someone may already have created an environment for that keyboard > with all patch names already entered. You can open the score page as its recording to see if its recording notes.
Also you can open the midi track as an event list to see if its capturing
anything. If there is nothing there, then you need to open the audio-midi utility
and make sure the midi interface is working, then make sure there is a multi
instrument on Logics' environment.
If are recroding actual notes that can be seen in the score, matrix/piano
roll or event list, but they are not playing back, then that would be rare. maybe
check the outputs of the keyboard.
