Hey Guys,
I came across some intriguing free plugins in VST format.
Does anybody use VST via "wrapper"? Curious if it's a pretty easy, seamless thing? Are
they heavy on CPU because of the wrapper?
Here's the ones I found: http://www.madtracker.org/plugins.php?author=Elogoxa

Interesting question. I was thinking about the fxpansion VST wrapper recently... http://www.fxpansion.com/index.php?page=5&tab=22 and wondered whether anyone has tried it successfully. cheers Jon On 7 Apr 2008, at 17:45, pete_buchwald wrote: > Hey Guys, > > I came across some intriguing free plugins in VST format. > > Does anybody use VST via "wrapper"? Hey Jon,
I've been using fxpansion's VST Wrapper for around 8 months now with no issues to note.
Just to clarify, I'm using OS 10.4.11 (I think), Logic Pro 7.2.3 on a PowerBook G4 1.67 GHz (2 Gigs RAM.)
I use a myriad of AU/VST Plug-Ins and they work fine whether alone or in tandem on a channel strip.
Anybody else second this?

It's absolutely seamless. It's used once to wrap a plugin, which from then on functions as an audiounit. I can't remember which of my plugs started as VST and which are native AUs. Fxpansion is highly recommended (also the only option, AFAIK) Gregory On Apr 7, 2008, at 2:04 PM, Jon Scordia wrote: > Interesting question. Hey, I have a TON of VST plug-in's [gigabytes] and use fxpansion VST wrapper all the time. I don't seem to have many problems in Logic 8 OTHER THAN companies that have NOT upgraded their plug-in's over time. The wrapper works, do the plug-in's in the question.. Hope this helps... -Man Parrish www.ManParrish.com --- In Logic_Cafe@yahoogroups.com, Jon Scordia <jscordia@...> wrote:

I've experienced both of them. With Leopard, the program seems to have problems retaining its database of wrapped plug-ins. It will reset to scan everything each time it is opened, as though it were the first time the program is launched. With Logic Pro 8, it has a window redraw issue whereby it will not move the plug-in's GUI along with the plug-in window that is opened. FXpansion says they aren't going to address either issue any time soon until they examine the VST3 protocol published by Steinberg to see if future development is worth it. This is according to posts by their programmers on their forums. So, it might work for some plug-ins, that's the best that can be said if you're running the latest stuff. If you're going to use Logic Pro 7.x in Mac OS X 10.4.x Tiger, it works flawlessly with quite a few plug-ins. But, they've basically stopped development on it, so caveat emptor. Just to check, are you taking about the window header/preset pane disappearing/offsetting against the plug's GUI? For me it seems to be when moving between monitors. I think its caused by the plugin window size, as my worst culprit for this (Guitar Rig) only seems to do this when in its biggest window size. Mike
