Program Change/Bank change

Program Change/Bank change

2009-01-26 by borceapiano

I can send program change events from logic into my Yamaha PSR 530,
but I can only select from the first 127 sounds (GM)
Does anyone know how to send Bank Messages along with the program
changes? do they go in as one string, or are they separate messages?

I have an axiom 49 controller and that's the same thing: past number
127 the programs repeat from zero.
I see that there is an option to set Bank (MSB) and Bank (LSB) and
also there is Data bytes 1,2, and 3.
I keep reading about CC#0 and CC#32 for bank messages, but I have no
clue how to actually put it in action.
Do I send the program change in one message, and the bank change in
another? Do I send the Bank message first?
Very confused on this.

Help anyone?
Thanks,
Adrian

in logic you can select a bank and a patch. you might need to experiment a little. for example with the Kurzweil it only accepts 100 patches per bank although logic and midi allow for 128.

completely understand, but how do I send the bank message?
I know that one bank in my PSR has 0 & 112 as the MSB and LSB values.
I will experiment some more, but still have no clue. Everything I
tried doesn't do it.
Thanks in advance,
Adrian

Re: [Logic_Cafe] Re: Program Change/Bank change

the same way you send patch changes. when you send a patch change it send a bank change too I think. there are various options in logic to send patch changes and chase changes during play back. I found this a little problematic, so I forced the matter. I would record midi, then make a bank change and patch change - then stop. I would then look at the sequence (with no notes) to see what commands were read as the bank change and patch change - the copy and paste this to the start of the sequences to force these changes every time I play the song.
