This really isn't Logic specific, but that is what I'm using.... I'd like to make an electric bass guitar (audio, not MIDI) sound more like a bowed bass, i.e. Longer sustain than usual. Can anyone offer a suggestion on what effect(s) to use?

Hello Mike, I had to do this live recently. I wanted a long sustain, and a slower attack than even a plucked fretless bass. I played my fretless Jerry Bix and tried both a volume pedal and a Boss effects pedal I was leant by a guitarist friend that was effectively a slow opening gate, that "bowed" the note in. Like pulling the volume knob up on a bass after plucking the note, only automated. In the end I went with a Boss compressor followed by the volume pedal as it was more controllable. I can't recall the name of the Boss pedal, but I think it was something obtuse like "Slow Gear" ! -- Best Wishes Steve Coates Listen to The Drop at; http://www.TheDrop.biz On 26 Jan 2009, at 20:16, Mike Hyland wrote: > This really isn't Logic specific, but that is what I'm using.... compressor plugin can make it sound like it sustains a little more by slowing the release. you can also add reverb although thats not a good solution. doesn't logic have an envelope plugin that slows the attack? its not easy to do exactly what you asked for though. i guess you could convert audio to midi, then copy the midi to a track with the EXS24 and a cello patch. ************** A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above. there is also the ebow - its for guitar but might work on bass too. ************** A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above. See yours in just 2 easy steps! Hello again, I tried the eBow on bass, and couldn't get it to drive the strings, not sure if it's filtered to restrict it to guitar range. Mine is one of the old black ones though, might have more luck with the newer souped up ones? -- Best Wishes Steve Coates Listen to The Drop at; http://www.TheDrop.biz On 26 Jan 2009, at 22:09, GAmoore@... wrote: > there is also the ebow - its for guitar but might work on bass too. > > ************** > A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above. Greetings, If you want to get something like this sound using only Logic's included effects, I would suggest playing around with the "Enveloper" plug-in, found under "Dynamics". A slight amount of dynamically-controlled AutoFilter preceding this could also add to the effect of a bow being used. Setting the threshold level properly for both effects will be crucial.
