Logic Pro 9

2009-09-13 by Dennis Gurwell

I'm planning to do the upgrade to Logic 9 today from Logic Pro 8. Is it
necessary to also install all the loops, etc. included in the box, or
are they the same as what I already have? Also, will installing them
mess up the loops and other audio material that I already have installed?

The upgrade will handle it al for you. Basically the v9 UPDATE
Installer looks at what you have and updates what is required and
installs the NEW loops but leaves the old ones alone and does not
reinstall them apart from maybe the odd addition or updated file.

The update still takes quite a while as there is still a lot of stuff
to install so be prepared for a long install (read: a few hours) but
it is no where as long as the original Apple Logic Studio v8 install
that I did (read: many, many, many hours) .

And also V9 i upgrade leaves Logic 8 there just in case and for old
files etc..

NB but if you run it (v8 after v9 ) it does an authorization style
question dialog .. Then when you open v9 again after using v8 that
does the same there.. But only asks once per session swap. Although
every time you change which version you are using it asks the same
question so if for some reason you are jumping back and forth between
v8 & v9 it is a pain. Silly really but that is life I guess and at
least it does help to remind us what version we are starting. Not
that there is necessarily any real reason to jump back and forth -
except maybe for compatibility with clients and other service
providers that may not have v9 yet? Yep there is no direct backward
compatibility just like there never was from v7 to v8
