Akoustik

Akoustik

2011-07-16 by Gregory

I'm having problems using Akoustik with Logic 8. Logic is super stable on all my songs unless I have Akoustik instantiated. Then, Logic crashes about 20% of the time, and if it doesn't crash, when I quit, it doesn't fully quit. The windows go away, and Logic disappears from the menu bar, but is still showing as launched in the Dock, so I have to quit, then force quit to get it completely gone. Does anyone else have these problems?

NI seems to have discontinued Akoustik as a standalone application (vs. bundled; not vs. plugin), so it seems the version I have (1.1.3.001) is the latest. I'm not really interested in upgrading Logic to v.9, just yet.

Thanks for any advice.

Hi Gregory,
Saw this too with my older rig.
I think its Akoustik thats being the issue.
NI has discontinued Akoustik as we know it, but has melded it into Kontakt 4. All the samples, patches and features are there inside of Kontakt.
See if you can get an upgrade to it or if downloading the Kontakt 4 player, and pointing its sample database to the location of the Akoustik samples are works for you.
Good Luck

I ran into the same thing with a variety of NI instruments from that era, including Akoustik. The solution on offer from NI was to simply reinstall Akoustik. This worked well and I only had to do it once.

Training: Opinions?

2011-07-18 by Irfon-Kim Ahmad

I've been using Logic for quite a while. Probably not as long as many
of you, but I think I started with version 4. However, for a little
while now, I've been feeling like I haven't been getting the most out of
Logic -- both due to just carrying forward old skills without updating
and due to old skills not often used getting lost in the shuffle. Also,
I just (finally) upgraded to Logic Pro 9. I think it's time I settled
down for a complete ground-up revamp. I've particularly enjoyed the few
DVD tutorials that Native Instruments put out for, for example, Kontakt
2 (I wish they'd update it), and I find that I'm more likely to go
through something like that than to slog through a thick book.

I've been considering a couple of avenues, but they're just the ones
I've coincidentally seen advertised. Lynda.com has a couple of videos.
"Logic Pro 9 Essential Training" is 5.5 hours, and is rated a level 1
out of 3 on their skills curve. I'm sure it's a good place to start,
but I worry it won't be anywhere near deep enough. "Logic Pro 9 New
Features" is 1.5 hours and is level 2. It's probably useful. The site
had a $25/mo subscription rate, or $37.50/mo if you want exercise files
to do the exercises. However, even though the price is right, if the
videos aren't good it's a waste of time, and I don't see that they have
any further higher-level videos for Logic Pro.

The other avenue I've been looking at are the Ask Video videos about
Logic 9 Pro. They seem to have three DVDs, just called Level 1, Level 2
and Level 2. They cost $39.99 each, or there's a bundle of all three
for $109.95. (That's the pricing at musicstudiodirect.com -- if you
know of a better price, that would be cool.) They claim to have (for
the three-pack), over 12 hours of video across 134 separate videos. So
it's much more expensive than lynda.com, especially since I'd likely not
need more than a single month there, but it seems like it might go much
further.

I'm wondering if anybody has any experience and can give any feedback
about either of these or if anybody has another favourite that they'd
like to recommend.

Yes I like the MacProVideo tutorials.
They are a but more expensive but I find them good.. I have quite a few I have purchased.
I have bought various videos on the Logic "tools" and Interments that they offer
I also subscribe to the Tips N Trick series as there are some great ideas and concepts in those too.

BTW>> I also have their Melodyne and Protools videos' etc ..

So you see I am a bit of an MacProVideo fan.. That said they are not the cheapest on the net but I am happy to pay for quality tutorials.

I also use www.macprovideo.com

Another good website with tutorials is www.groove3.com.

Each of the sites have an option to do a monthly subscription of $25.00 USD that is charged to a credit card or debit card. This will give you access to all the tutorials that are available (the even have some tutorials on NI stuff). You can cancel the subscription at any time and it might be a cheaper route than purchasing each video. Hope this helpls.

This is the best free site I have come across. Otherwise, buy the
monthly magazines. They all have one article on Logic each month and
as you don't get to choose the topic yourself, you can sometimes find
yourself learning about things that otherwise you would simply overlook

Andy,

I have used the AskVideo titles to learn Reason, but don't have experience with the Logic DVDs they have. I'm sure they're good though.

I would also like to put the VTC (virtual training center) site out there as an option. Sam McGuire is a friend and colleague of mine at The University of Colorado Denver and he does a great job with his video tutorials for VTC. His chapters on Logic 9 are no exception.

Best,

Pete

You know, if you know someone who knows Logic and depending upon your
situation, it's worth it to pay someone to just show you some of these
things. It's faster, it's direct, it's hands on, it's aimed toward your
specific needs---that's how I learned Vision years ago and that's what got
me started on Logic. Once I had the basics, then reading the manual was
easy
