Fog lights/ switches

Fog lights/ switches

2002-05-28 by mcaqmd

Folks,

I would like to use one of the two spare switches located on the dash
to operate my new driving lights. One of the switches(furthest to
the left) has two wires, one blue/white, and the other blue/yellow.
The other switch has a red and a red/white wire connected to it. I
know red is +12v when the ignition is on.

Do any of these wires go to the headlamp area? It appears that the
blue/yellow does and of course the red. Do they go thru a relay??

Before I start tracing wires and circuits, can anyone help??

Thanks in advance.

Hi Don,

I hope this info will help you.

The colour codes of the wires that you mention going to the two dash
switches if they conform to vehicle wiring standards should be as
follows :-

RED RED/WHITE This switch should be the feed switch for the instrument
panel lights, the red wire being the switch feed from the main master
lighting switch and should only be live when the lights are on. The
red/white wire should branch off from this switch to supply the
instrument bulbs.

BLUE/WHITE BLUE/YELLOW My car does not have a switch with these colour
codes but they would normally be used for long range driving lamps with
the blue/yellow wire running from the switch to supply the lamps and I
assume that the blue/white wire would be the switch feed from the main
beam circuit and would only be live when the main beam lights are on.

Don,

In Marcos Owners Club magazine #23 there is a section on the coupe wiring.
It has all the wiring labelled with colour codes so it should be
straightforward to identify the wiring you're refering to. Unfortunately I'm
out of town during the week, so it will have to wait until the weekend, but
I'll look it up for you and let you know next week unless someone can come
up with it sooner.

Thanks Paul and Lee,

I'll be looking forward to acquiring that info from the MOC mag. Would
be nice if the wires were there just waiting to be connected to the
lights.

Re: Fog lights/ switches

Well, the wires WERE there "just waiting to be hooked up! The left-
most switch has a blue/white wire that runs down the left side of the
car and operates only with the main beam on. Must be for driving
light(s). The switch second from the left has a red/yellow wire that
runs down the left side of the car and operates the fog lamp(s).
Only the main light switch has to be on for operation. Simple job
after finding the wires!

Both wires are in the harness and just taped off. I used two
different schematics I have. One doesn't even have fog/driving
lights on it but the other has a "spot" light. The one with the spot
light is from the build manual for the 1985 Mantula V8, 3 litre, 2
litre, and the 1600. It is hard to read so I don't think it would
post very good. I'll make copies if anyone wants one.

Hi Don,

I looked in the wiring diagram I mentioned last week and found that the red
and red/white combination is for the panel lights as Lee described. However
the blue/yellow combination is not shown. I suspect this combination was
added to the wiring loom of later cars. I don't recall having any extra
wires unattached anywhere under the dash or under the bonnet when I was
working on those areas.

However you seem to have answered your own question last week so I guess
you're happy with your discovery.

Regards,
        Paul
