Martina Info Sought URGENTLY

Martina Info Sought URGENTLY

2005-07-30 by pverdeyen

Hi guys
I realise that the Martina is thought of as the Poor relation in
Marcos circles, however since I already own a "classic" 1968 car,
please indulge me........
My car is being restored (and therefore in bits!!) and I need another
car quickly to drive NOW. I have looked at a couple of Martinas and
accepting that they were/are kit cars they seem okay. BUT am I missing
something when I check them over??
What should I particularly check out?? One was a Spyder, apparently
the first made (??) and I understand that they leak but there was NO
sign of damp inside the car. Most cars have straightforward Ford
mechanicals which is no problem.
Any info on what to watch out for gratefully received, esp the
front/rear suspension set-up which is totally alien to me.

Thanks
Paul V

Well guys, the lack of response (except from Martineztop) just tells
me that the Martina IS the poor relation......
Or is it that there aren't many Brits on this forum and that the
Martina wasn't imported into the States???
Either way, I'm now going in blind to see these Martinas

The Martina was not imported into the USA/Canada. The last imports were in 1972 I believe, the Volvo 6 GT. Sorry we couln't help.

Your best bet is to go to the Marcos forum, www.marcosforum.com, the
Martina has it very own section.

I don't think many Martinas were actually sold and even fewer
assembled.

I did drive one once, Alan Fereday's demonstrator, and it was great -
Not at all un-Marcos-like to drive, nice and light and refined and
with a modified 2.0 Pinto and short shift 5 speed box it was very
enjoyable to drive and performed well.

Of course, not all will be as professionally assembled or finished,
so just check for the usual things. Chances are if the trim looks
poorly finished, EVERYTHING is, but then it's all very cheap Ford to
replace, so that's a positive.

Look for rust on the mounting points for the front suspension and
the majority of the chassis, notably to lower sill rails.

Let us know what you find out.

Cheers.
