Which wood?

Which wood?

2006-08-09 by marcos1600

Here is a list of the high-grade plywood readily available to me from Aircraft Spruce.
Most of it comes in pretty small sheets, but should be large enough for patching.

1/4 Inch Birch/Basswood Plywood
BASSWOOD MIL-P-6070 PLYWOOD
OKUME PLYWOOD
ROYAL MARINE A-A FIR PLYWOOD
FINISH BIRCH AIRCRAFT PLYWOOD (METRIC)
DOMESTIC PLYWOOD

So which would be most correct?

Still looking at the proper technique to use too.

If memory serves, the Okume was the plywood the factory used. Jac Myers

The Royal Marine A-A Fir is one that will give you exilant service. The domestic 90 Degree will also yeild great results. I am not familiar with the wooden chassis. You might check with Rory at Heritage Marcos parts.
I use both in aircraft buildtng. The T88 Epoxy adhesive is the best for aircraft use, and I brlieve will gtve you the best strength.

If memory serves, Okume was the plywood used by the Marcos Factory. Jack Myers might be able to confirm this. That doesn't mean that Okume is the best or greatest since there are a lot of factors used by factories when choosing materials including cost, availability etc. However, it seems like I read somewhere that the Marcos factory used Okume because it was really light while still having the necessary strength.

I dont know where you are, so here is another source of plywood for
you to look at. The company it Boulter plywood in Sommerville,
Massachusetts. They have prices on there web site, the link is
http://www.boulterplywood.com/
I have done business with them, they are local to me so I use them.
