Serial Number help

Serial Number help

2008-09-26 by hide809rig169

Thank you to all that have helped me on where to find serial numbers
and encouragement. I have spent two mornings with the Department of
Motor vehicle with the car on the trailer (the car is project and does
not run). As things stand now. "DMV" is checking to see if the car is
stolen, has claims against it and a title search. I think, I have
proven the car is not a "gray" market car or imported illegally into
the USA. I once again am sorry to use this term, "kit" car, I tried
using component car and the inspectors did not understand. "Kit" car,
seemed to make the inspectors more understanding. The inspectors told
me it could be up to three weeks before they get back with me on the
car situation. I can't blame the inspectors as they appear to be
doing what they have been trained and told to do. They are protected
themselves and the state. another problem is the 4 place chassis
number, they seem to have computer problems with it. The possible
solution they suggested is for the state to assign, a special serial
number if the title search works out. I will keep the list "posted"
as to what happens on this. Once again thanks for the help.

Steve,

Maybe a bit late to help out, and don't know US law as I'm in the UK.
My car is 1990, and still has the simple 4 digit chassis number (a
Mantula), I think the VIN requirement may have come in with the next
model (Mantara) in 1992.

Of course many kit cars used older engines from donor vehicles, so the
other magic number is the engine number. You may have an older engine
than the car, which could affect emission testing.

Rory at Marcos Heritage Services has the records of all cars (AFAIK)
and so should be able help with date evidence from the car number -
and almost certainly he can tell you when the VIN number came in
(which could help convince the authorities it never had one).

In the UK, my car has a 1995 registration (took 5 years to build), but
is exempt from having a cat fitted as it was a kit car, and has an
easier emission test as the engine is 1990. Lucky me.

Hope it goes well.
Steve Richardson

Bjorn and all,

I apologize, I have been away from this forum for several months. Is
the car still for sale?

Looking for early Marcos photos

2009-01-26 by Andy&Alison Seward

Fellow MarcosManiacs,

I am searching for Mr Konrad Wolosz. Do you perhaps have an email address or telephone contact number for Mr. Wolosz?

I saw a page (below) from an early Marcos Owner's Club magazine wherein Mr Wolosz posted two photographs of Steve Minoprio and HOO144, our Marcos GT Gullwing, racing at Brands Hatch and Snetterton in 1962. I want to contact Konrad in hopes he still has those photos and might send me better copies.

Mark Saxby owns a car Konrad once owned as well, registered CLE 100H. Mark believes Konrad Wolosz moved from the UK to Switzerland some time ago. Today he kindly posted a "searching for Konrad Wolosz" advert on his Unofficial Marcos Homepage at http://homepage.ntlworld.com/mark.saxby/marcos/forsale.htm#wanted

Thank you in advance for any assistance you might render in locating Konrad Wolosz. Much appreciated.

Best Regards,
Andy Seward

Another one for sale!
I don't want to hijack this thread, but there is a 1970 steel-chassied Marcos on e-Bay (USA) #270336870704. It is up in Canada. Does anyone know this car?

Hello All,
It seems to be that time of year when people are looking for a Marcos to buy, restore or race.
I thought I would offer up my 1967/68 marcos for sale. She has been restored with 50 miles since completion, lots of changes/mods mainly because I was going to use her as a track-day car, nothing that can't be undone.
E-mail me at jaguar1964@... for info and photos.
John.
