Sorry, but I think you may be both wrong. According to ITV's 'the
South Bank Show' 1992, it's a real slide guitar, recorded actually on
the vocal track itself. Sir George Martin (for it is he) is
demonstrating what sounds are on the 4 track tape.

YES! Illumination at last!!!I wondered all my life what the heck that strange sound on the left channel right after the first "´cos I´m going to...". It´s nothing more and nothing less than the Mark II (or is it Mark V´s?) Guitar. It´s also the sound that makes the pitch drop (and NOT the flute, like Paul showcased so many times).
