M-Tron sentiments

M-Tron sentiments

2004-11-05 by Dagfinn H

On the topic of software emulation, it would be interesting to get a poll
going - what are the group's feelings about the software alternatives? Also,
perhaps a software comparison is in order? M-Tron vs. the various sample
libraries like Pinder's, etc.?

Just a thought. Actually, two.

Regards,

Dagfinn

Dagfinn,

I'm using Cubase VST 5.1 to run M-Tron. For me it's a nice addition
of over 100 sounds since I only have 6 sounds between my 2 M400's.
I'm also using Halion for samples of my own Trons, the Primesounds
Mellotron samples and other Tron samples I've recently gotten on
eBay. I've been considering getting the Pinder CD for the Chamberlin
samples since I've heard that Halion can import AKAI format samples,
but I'm a little ambivalent because of the low sample rate. I
sampled my Trons at 44100 and dropped the sample rate to 22050
(which I think the Pinder samples are) for a comparison and there is
a big difference in the sound.

It would be nice if we could upload some random note unprocessed
samples of each sample set so we could all hear the differences.
Maybe 3 violins low G, a midkey note and a high note.

do you mean like this?

http://www.mellotron.com/soundframe.htm

The sampling rate subject has been hashed to death on
this list, but the Pinder ROM still sounds miles
better than the M-Tron junk. Those choirs are just
ROTTEN.

If you're going to do the samples thing, I suggest the Pinder rom
with Sampletank2.

I'm still on the fence. But if I decide to go with the Pinder CD, it
will have to be done with Halion. I like Sampletank, but one
software sampler is all I can handle for now.

I'm sticking with Kontakt. I use Sonar, and I've heard complaints about
problems using Halion in that environment. I haven't had the opportunity to
try Sampletank. But this is getting OT. Sorry.
