New M400

2005-09-05 by John Beresford

Hi guys,
I've just finished the refurb of the ex-Strawbs M400 No. 992 I
acquired a few months ago. It's now back to it's original condition
before they hand painted it black (badly!). Mechanically and
electrically it runs beautifully now but the original tapes are a bit
thin after all that touring. I've uploaded more pics of the original
and finished condition on the Mellotronists web page in the "john's
pic's " folder.

Cheery bye

John

I'd say! **Nice!!**

I noticed two mods:

1) The motor controller seems to be attached to the transformer housing

2) It looks like there's an aluminum support for the usually floppy side
panel of the main frame

Comments?

...kl...
M400 #805 - not modded like that...
M400 #1037 - ...then again, not touring like that

Hi Ken,
I've seen SMS boards attached to the cabinet base too. If you are
referring to the large piece of sheet aluminium that seems to come up
and over the motor on the rear shot of one of the "before" pics, that I
think was to shield the motor from the black fabric they used instead of
a rear panel.
However; the motor panel was a bit floppy and so the only mod I made was
to drill a hole in the bottom of the panel and put a bolt and lock-nut &
washer through it so the head presses against the side panel block. You
can then adjust it so the panel is nice and vertical.
