All of the 3rd party K3 type inks have way lower longevity ratings compared to OEM K3 inks. See http://www.aardenburg-imaging.com/. So you would want to use OEM inks if you are selling your prints. I don't think you can mix and match refillable carts with OEM carts, at least my auto reset refillable 3800 carts recommended against it.

True carbon B&W inksets can beat the OEMs. I do, however, use Canon color pigments to make my toner for neutralizing the carbon.
So, I don't know anything about this particular third party ink seller, but the OEM advantage is with the color pigments, not the carbon. Carbon is king when it comes to longevity.
See page 2 of http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/Eboni-Variable-Tone.pdf, where I summarize some of the Aardenburg-Imaging data. The results show the MIS and Cone carbon
to be about 6 times as lightfast as the Epson 3800 ABW mode test when it prints a medium warm tone that matches the carbons. (This comparison is of the midtone delta-e values of the test samples.)
To take the extreme case, with carbon on a better paper (from a longevity perspective) than the HPR used in the above tests, the carbon image is "fading" at 1/36th the rate of the Epson ABW.
What these comparisons show is that carbon is extremely strong, and good carbon is readily available to third party vendors. (Also the paper can be a significant variable also.)
