Simplified linearization FAQ? or Tutorial?

2006-12-30 by Bruce Brown

Greetings from a new member here. Quickly, I'm a fine art
photographer printing B&W images using an Epson 4000 with K7 inks (new
to these, I've been using the Piezography Quads until now). I bought
QTR after learning that my StudioPrint RIP wouldn't work with K7s and
the upgrade was $300 (AND I'm moving to the Epson 9800 which
StudioPrint requires an even bigger $ to upgrade to handle the 44"
width of the new machine). So, I was pleased to find the $50 QTR that
accommodates K7 inks AND the Epson 9800 printer. BUT, QTR's
linearization process is a nightmare to wade through. Hasn't anybody
come up with a simpler-explanation FAQ or Tutorial that makes it easy
for us "Artsy" types (that was one thing I really liked about
StudioPrint -easy wizards to take you the procedure).

So, I've checked out several messages here related to linearization
and unfortunately for me the solutions still seem too cumbersome to
understand.

What a wonderful benefit it would be to people like me (and judging by
the posts on this group's message board there are many people in this
boat) if someone were to develop such a tutorial or FAQ that easily
takes someone with limited experience/knowledge through the
linearization procedure effectively and easily.

I'm open to any guidance/suggestions anyone has to offer...

Thank you for your responses,
Bruce
