You can switch back and forth between the two as you see fit. Just because you install QTR doesn't mean you have to use it all the time (or any of the time for that matter).

  I'm just starting out using this program with my Epson 2400. Mainly, I
  want to create BW transparencies at 720 max. DPI (printer output),
  which the Epson driver does very poorly. 

  I'm wondering, however, do I still have the option of not using the
  quadone RIP and instead printing from within Photoshop, as I've been
  doing before downloading this program. This is just in case I don't
  get the results I want and need to go back to my old way of printing.
