RE: [QuadtoneRIP] QTR + UT7 Inks..Two Important Questions

2005-06-30 by Daniel Staver

Paul's curves usually work really well. The advantage with QTR is that you
can blend the tones to something in between what's available with the
curves.

Printing with the Epson driver and the curves is much faster than QTR.

If you want to create your own curves QTR is the way to go. You have fine
grained control over every ink channel and can do absolutely anything you
want. Photoshop curves are much less intuitive and give you less control.
Either way there will be a learning curve.

QTR is great if you want to experiement with glossy printing and GLOP,
possibly with PKN as the black ink. I tried Paul's GLOP curves, but they
don't seem to reduce the bronzing enough. I believe you need full control
over the entire yellow channel to use the GLOP to its full potential. I have
made neutral and cool GLOP-curves for Ilford Smooth Pearl and Epson Premium
Semigloss.

I made the UT7 curves that come with QTR. They should work fine on EEM and
Photo Rag. Let me know if you run into any problems and I'll see if I can
improve them. I haven't got much feedback on them yet.
