Yor logic appears to be good, but it just might be faulty. Here is my experience with a
new R2400.

While going through a second set of OEM carts, I had to replace two of the inks, a
nominally routine occurrence. I replaced the two, with Epson carts, and got the "Fatal
Error" as evidenced by a pair of blinking lights. The manual says that, under these
circumstances, something may be blocking the print head. If not, then the printer has to
be repaired.

I called Epson, told them of the problem and went through the symptoms while on the
phone with a tech. She confirmed that the printer had to be repaired. No further
questions asked.

She said that a new printer would be sent to me that same day and that I should use the
shipping materials to return the malfunctioning printer, prepaid FedEx. The new
(refurb'd?) printer arrived two days later. End of story. Well, not quite. The dead printer
had to be returned promptly, or I would be charged for it.

Moral of the story: be careful of logic based on "post hoc, ergo propter hoc." Epson will
probably replace the printer without much hassle.
