No.  You can do this.
 
Four screws on the front, bottom metal panel get you access to the waste
pads.  I use cotton cushion stuffing as a replacement.  When you replace the
metal, be sure to get it right or the vacuum will not be there.  Notice how
it fits into the printer when you remove it

Pressing paper source, cut/eject, & paper feed turn on the printer --
execute all.  (These are from my notes.  Hopefully it'll be clear when you
try it.)
