Yes, it will measure dmax. Lmin=dmax in the scenario you described. You can easily convert L to density units with the appropriate formula (search the archive) if you wish, but it really isn't necessary. Colormunki will also strip read so you don't have to measure patch by patch, you just need to make a custom target to do this.
