I want to optimize the dmax of a new paper. Can the users of ColorMunki let me know if it's able to measure a 21-step test strip for Dmax as so I can set the maximum ink limit. TIA

Yes it works quit well. It will give you LAB as well as Srgb. You can go here and find some good information for creating QTR profiles as well as a Grey scale target. http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/article_pages/bw_printing/bw_print_colorm unki.html Paul

I have read Keith's well written article but it's on linearization of QTR profiles. I need to measure Dmax instead of LAB reading. Maybe I'm didn't make it clear..... Say I want to know the max. ink limit of each channel, I print a 21-step Dmax test strip (from 0 to 100) then measure each patches' Dmax e.g. let's assume it occurred at 65% for this example then I know the inking limit occurred at 65% for that channel. I did this with my previous spectro, as I'm thinking to get the ColorMunki therefore need to know if it can do it. Thanks

John, Yes you are right it will not measure Dmax directly but I have used it to find the MAX density........ Not sure if there is any correlation to LAB "L" value to density? Paul

Hi, Try this web site for conversions. http://www.brucelindbloom.com/ Paul --- In QuadtoneRIP@yahoogroups.com, "Paul Grant" <gphoto2@...> wrote: > > John, > > Yes you are right it will not measure Dmax directly but I have used it to > find the MAX density........ > > Not sure if there is any correlation to LAB "L" value to density? > > Paul > > -----Original Message----- > From: QuadtoneRIP@yahoogroups.com [mailto:QuadtoneRIP@yahoogroups.com] On > Behalf Of John > Sent: Tuesday, July 01, 2008 12:46 PM > To: QuadtoneRIP@yahoogroups.com > Subject: [QuadtoneRIP] Re: Can ColorMunki measure Dmax? > > > > I have read Keith's well written article but it's on linearization of > QTR profiles. Yes, it will measure dmax. Lmin=dmax in the scenario you described. You can easily convert L to density units with the appropriate formula (search the archive) if you wish, but it really isn't necessary. Colormunki will also strip read so you don't have to measure patch by patch, you just need to make a custom target to do this. Send me an email if you want a Colormunki QTR compatible 51 step gray target psd file. Carl

Hi Carl I have sent you an email regarding this. As Yahoo Group hide all email addresses, I did a search and sent it to your email address@schophoto, I hope the address is correct. Thanks John --- In QuadtoneRIP@yahoogroups.com, Carl Schofield <list@...> wrote:

I uploaded the ColorMunki 51 step gray target to the Files>Tools section. It is a CS3 psd file in rgb mode and should be printed with no color management. Can be strip read with the ColorMunki using the ColorPicker module and export the data as a csv file. Carl --- In QuadtoneRIP@...m, "John" <firewoodtech@...> wrote:
