R1800 - Inksupply 3-black inkset

R1800 - Inksupply 3-black inkset

2008-07-01 by Marco Brambilla

Dear all,

total beginner question.

I have done some research and reading on the 3 UTBO inks sold by Inksupply and prepared by Paul Roark for the epson R1800 printer.

I still have more doubts than certainties ;)

Here we go:

1) Do I understand correctly that these three cartridges do all contain the same ink ?
2) And that the reason why we need 3 cartridges is not to have different shades of grey, but to have a more uniform pigment deposition guaranteed by three heads vs just one ?

3) If I understood correctly, why can't the same be done with glossy inks ? (I mean, using the PK cartridge in multiple locations, and leaving the glop) ?

4) As far as my tests showed, the matte/glossy selector on QT does not select the ink, only the profile does.
Can I then create a profile for QT that uses only the PK when printing on luster paper ?
What about the gloss optimizer ?

Thank you very much for your help and patience.

Marco

I will attempt some kind of answer but appreciate that I am a beginner as well !

Point Numbers 1-2 are correct.

No. 3 - well, the glossy inks would not be carbon ?? thus kind of defeating the purpose of long lasting prints ?

No.4 - I think is the same answer for No. 3. If you want to use glossy inks why not just use the regular ink sets ?

Hope this might help a bit.

Bernard

Hi Bernard.

Thank you very much for your reply.

I know that the glossy ink is not carbon, so in theory will fade sooner.

I was thinking about the research (also independent, if I remember
correctly) that qualifies Epson's luster paper as archival.

The benefit is obviously higher contrast a blacker blacks.

However, I have just started experimenting with B&W printing and papers,
so I might as well find something satifactory without the sheen of the
gloss and glop

Thanks, Marco.
