Re: [QuadtoneRIP] Fine white Lines only in QTR-Print with Pro3800

2010-05-19 by Mike Finley

At least with the R2400 on a PC, there's also a difference in the
pattern in which the heads lay down the ink. with the 2400, you can lift
the lid and as long as you hold the front panel in place watch the ink
being laid down as the head traverses the paper. With the Epson driver,
ink is being laid down gradually over a broad stripe of the paper as the
paper moves below it; using QTR the ink is laid down over a much
narrower strip, building the density in that strip much more quickly. I
occasionally see the same problem with QTR showing narrow white lines,
repeated at very regular intervals while the Epson driver in ABW mode
doesn't show these. My guess would be that the Epson driver is geared to
laying down the ink in a pattern that hides a misfiring nozzle, by using
the misfiring nozzle as part of a pattern in all horizontal lines, while
the driver QTR uses assumes the heads are perfect, and lays down the ink
from the faulty nozzle all in the same line.

I hope that makes some sense!

My solution is to give up and use the printer for other things (or use
ABW if I need a monochrome print), and come back to printing with QTR
another day ... not an ideal solution even for me.

I'm still using the OEM inks, as I haven't found suitable monochrome
inks in the UK.
