Re:Epson 3880: OEM vs Cone inks

2010-09-27 by Lutsky, Berel

I would agree the Cone inks are consistently better than the OEM for BW - I use an Epson 7600 and a 1400 for most of my work BW work and a 4800 for color, Up until this summer my experience was only with the matte papers, did a workshop at Cone editions and will be setting up a 2400 and an 800 with inksets for glossy papers in the near future. I have been able to compare the same image printed with OEM using QTR, OEM using Epson ABW and the Cone K7 inksets side by side by side, and the Cone ink prints are visually both closer to neutral, and richer in shadow detail, and using the Cone curves provided in QTR, print with smoother transitions - Just a note - one can print all the stepwedges one wants, and measure them over and over - all you will really have will be a confirmation that your printer and profile are more or less working as they should be - the real proof is in printed image
