QTR and Photoshop CS5.1

2012-02-02 by christie238@btinternet.com

Hi folks,

I am completely new to Quadtone and indeed digital printing. I am using an Imac, Epson R 3000 and Photoshop CS5.1. My main purpose is to produce digital negatives on transparent film for use in alternative processes such as cyanotype and gum dichromate prints. Is anyone else in the group working in this field who could give me some guidance?

Download Ron Reeder's book ($10 download) and find Clay Harmon's messages on the subject on this forum.

Thanks for replying Alan,

Yes it is Ron Reeder's book that I am working from . Unfortunately the book, whilst useful, is written using CS 4 and the R3880. I emailed Roy Harrington about there being no .quad files in the Epson R 3000 library and he admitted that to date none have been written and suggests I try some of the other Epson drivers. This what really frustrates when programs state that they support a particular model. I will look for Clay Harmon's messages

None of the profiles supplied for any printer are designed for digital negatives. You will always have to create your own. Start with the text file from Ron's book.

Or here is a Pt/Pd profile that I created for the R3000:

Copy it into the R3000 folder and run the install program. Follow the steps in Ron's book to establish your printing time, print a step tablet and linearize the midtones. You will probably have to adjust the ink levels for Cyan and gum.

Good luck
