getting back in the game - just point me in the direction, and then ignore me

all,
I am getting back into the BW printing game after quite a while away. I have basically forgotten the workflow for QTR. I have tried several links but all seem _just_ a bit more advanced than I need. I'm talking basic here.

Just point me to one place and then ignore my question forever. I don't mean to write an "RTFM" post but everyone here is writing stuff way more advanced.

I am on:
Windows Vista 64 bit
Qimage
QTR(gui)
Epson 2200
UT3D inkset

For example:
-editing of photo only in PS? Can I output from Qimage?
-seems I have to set it to greyscale before printing, right?
-does it matter what I pick for settings in QTR, just to get started, based on the above inkset/printer combo (which is not one of the ones listed)?

thanks and sorry
allan

You can use Qimage, but you have to output to file rather than printer.
Qimage remains limited to only 8 bits per channel output, even in the
latest version. Mike Chaney remains adamant there is no need for it. You
should set the printer ICC to QTR_RGB_Matte_Paper (or ..._Photo_Paper if
using lustre/glossy paper of course) - some older versions of Qimage
have problems with the QTR_Gray_ profiles) and probably set the target
ppi to 360.
I usually have sharpen set to 4 rather than the default 5, but thats
just personal preference
I can't help with which curves to use, sorry, as I have no experience
with either that printer or that inkset. You'll probably eventually need
to create your own.

that should say 'Mike Chaney remains adamant there is no need 16 bit
output.'

ICC when printing to file in Qimage

2012-02-16 by ausdlk

I read in a previous post about QTR specific ICC profiles to use when printing to a file in Qimage to later be printed using QTR. From what I read, I deduced that there is one for matte paper and another for glossy.

What are the names of the ICC profile files and where do I find them?

Thanks.

as far as I can remember they are included in the later QTR builds and
are installed in the right place when QTR is installed, and should
appear in the Qimage list of printer profiles. There, you're looking for
QTR_RGB_Matte_Paper (or QTR_RGB_Photo_Paper if
using lustre/glossy paper of course).

If I'm using profiles for the inkset already..not sure how I'd work this in. But yes, I do remember that now, using those generic ICCs. I will try both approaches.
