using a mac, can the epson 3800 be connected and used using quadtone rip via the network or can it only be USB connection

I have used a 3880 over a network:  the printer was connected to an Airport Express via a USB cable.

You can also connect the 3800 to the ethernet directly.   In both cases look
at the Bonjour info at the end of Tutorial.pdf

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
