Printing the inkseperation.psd

Printing the inkseperation.psd

2012-02-11 by bkeesinguk

Hi, I am new to QTR and have a couple of issues. Firstly I am using a Mac with 10.6.8 with epson pro 4800.
I am wanting to print the inkseparation.psd to establish the ink limits. All the inkseperation files in the images folder seem to have magenta lines and not there proper colours? Am I missing something here?
When opening the tif or psd file they do not have any embedded profile so do I leave as is?
Also can you please confirm that you print this using the calibration setting from the QTR 4800 printer setings?

Thanks

Brett

This works for me with 10.6.8 and Photoshop CS5:

Open the ink separation page and assign a profile of Adobe RGB (1998)
Print from Photoshop with the following settings:
Document : (Profile: Adobe RGB (1998))
	Color Handling: Photoshop Manages Colors
	Printer Profile: Adobe RGB(1998)
	Rendering Intent: Relative Colorimetric
	Black Point Compensation: Off
Do use the calibration mode in the QTR dialog box.

Good luck

Thanks for the reply but this does not work either?? I get all sorts of colours across each band. For instance the cyan band starts with a green then goes to blue then brown then purple then magenta??
The rest of the bands are similar? Strange

Can anyone help??

Thanks

Hi Alan,
I will send some screen shots thought soon. Can you please confirm what inkseparation file you are printing? I was using the inkseparation8.tif from the images folder as this has the 8 inks for the epson 4800.
On a slightly different note, the epson driver works pretty well. I custom profiled the paper i use using the 51 step grey tif and load this profile in CS5 when printing. Results are amazing!! Am I going to see better results with QTR?
Thanks

If you have a printer with eight inks then the 8 ink tiff separation file is the one you should use.

A couple more points. You must have your Color Settings in CS5 set for the color space you plan to use. You do this in File>Color Settings.

Let's assume you have the settings for Adobe RGB (1998) for color and Gray Gamma 2.2 for gray.

When you open the RGB ink separation file and go to Edit> Assign Profile you will be presented with three options. 1. Don't color manage this document. 2. Working RGB: Adobe RBG (1998), and 3. Assign Profile. (list of options). Make sure you select Option #2, not #3.

If you do that and follow the rest of Alan's directions the ink separation file should print as it should with CS5 and OS 10.6.8.

Hi Sandy,
No I just can't get this file to print correctly... Tried all sorts of combinations. I have attached some screen shots that may help solve this.
