Canson Platine Fiber Rag

2012-10-23 by dr4x5

I have been using QTR for some time (yes, I paid for it), with Moab Entrada Natural and have been getting great results. I would love to use QTR with Canson Platine Fiber Rag as well but there are no profiles for it. I tried the Museo one, it seems to be the closest paper, luster, photo black ink, but it was not quite right.

Is anyone using Canson Platine Fiber Rag, and if so, with which profile. It also a superb paper for color, if you do any.

Thanks for any help.

Eric

I forgot to mention, I print with an Epson 3800 with OSX Lion on a Mac Pro.

Hi Eric,

If you can print out the 51-gray.tiff target and mail it to me, I can scan in the target using our i1 system and send you the curve to install.

Let me know if you need instructions on printing the target. I suggest you use the new qtr-print-tool to do so, you'll get much better results than through photoshop.

Hi Nick,

I'd be very appreciative of your scanning the target for me. I'll need your mailing address.

Thanks so much.

Hi Nick,

I'd be very appreciative of your scanning the target for me. I'll need your mailing address. Actually, I'll need instructions as well since I'm not clear on things like what color space, whether to set it for application managed or no color management and which intent to use. I assume I print with the Quad3800 printer I've installed.

Thanks so much.

Hi Eric,

It was good talking on the phone. In case you still need the instructions for printing targets through QTR Print Tool, they are as follows:

Choose your printer - quad3800

Set color management to 'no color management'

Check 16 bit, out of habit

load the target - Macintosh HD/Applications/QuadToneRIP/Eye-One/Step-51-Gray.tff

click print. this will bring up the print dialog, make sure quad3800 is set as your printer, expand the window for more options so you can switch from layout to quadtone rip

Mode: QuadTone RIP 16 Bit

Curve 1: UCpk-raw-neutral (or warm or warmer if you want the prints toned)
leave curve 2 and 3 on none

resolution: 2880
speed: uni-directional

click print to send the print to the printer.

Like I said, be sure to use a sturdy box and placing it in an archival plastic sleeve would be a good idea as well. This will protect the surface from scratching and the paper in general from the gorillas at the USPS.

Send me a message when you've shipped. If I get the paper by Friday, then I'll be able to scan in the target and send you the curve the same day.

Cheers,
Nick

Hi Nick,

Thanks so much. The paper sample went out today, I live in Oregon, so it should not take too long to get to you.

Hi Eric,

I've scanned the target and created the curve for you to download.

It can be found in the files sections of the message boards here - http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/QuadtoneRIP/files/Curves/Epson%203800/

Please let me know if you have any questions regarding installing the curve. We have written instructions on our wiki here: http://digi.stedwards.edu/wiki/index.php/Create_QuadTone_RIP_Curve#Install_New_Curve

Cheers and let me know how it looks,

Hi, having problem installing this curve, i get following error when running printer install command

Creating curve UCpk-Canson-Platine-Fiber-Rag-Neutral
Invalid linearize curve -- not constantly increasing

any ideas?

thanks

Ok follwed the link for creating curve, but not sure at what point in procedure i should start?

I think it should be Create and Add Linearization Data ?

Looking in the 4800-7800-9800-UC profile folder i don't see a neutral raw file?

Bit lost at this point?

Hi Michael,
Had the same error custom profiling a Tecco paper - Selenium. What I did was re-scan the targets then it was fine.

Re: Canson Platine Fiber Rag

2015-03-27 by richard@...

What was linked to was a final ink descriptor file that the installer script uses to create the .quad file. YOu just need to put that in the applications/quadtonerip/profiles/3800-UC folder (the same one with the install script. However, if you try to install that profile you will get the "not constantly increasing error" because the L* values in the 51 step target are too close together—these ones specifically: 5.92 5.86. I struggled with the same thing when I first started creating profile way back when...

It is better to use the 21-step target (with multiple measurements to average out any errors in the readings) to keep the L* far enough apart to not throw that error (the 21x4 random is a good one) . I use an average of several readings from the 51 step target to check for linearity and to create ICC profiles.

Hope that clears it up a little..

That is a problem.
You could send someone the targets or send back the targets to the person who sent you the data.

Hope things will work out.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
